50th anniversary of formal cessation of hostilities in Vietnam
The Army Museum of South Australia wishes to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Governor-General Sir Paul Hasluck’s proclamation marking the formal cessation of hostilities in Vietnam by Australian forces on 11 January 1973.
Over 60,000 Australians served in the Vietnam war from all three services between 1962 and 1972.
523 are listed on the Australian War Memorial’s Roll of Honour as having died during, or as a result of, their service in Vietnam. Almost 2,400 were wounded, and many veterans endured lasting effects of physical or mental war wounds.
